A GLASS WITH A HANDLE

At the weekend a visitor to the Rose and Crown told me that in DERBYSHIRE a glass with a handle is known as a “LEARNER GLASS”.

That’s a new one to me, and an interesting and complete reversal of the widely held belief by many young ‘southerners’, that a glass with a handle is for OLD PEOPLE!.

I assume that the Derbyshire ‘learners’ are YOUNG PEOPLE.

Can any Derbyshire readers please confirm this.

Thank you,

Andrew
